Today was another wilderness adventure with my Herpetology class. This is the "Lab" section where every week we go out to observe herps in their native habitat. Although we rarely see a lizard or newt, we always get plenty of exposure to habitat. Because of all the rain we've had the road, at a point, became impassible and we had to trek in through the mud to the trail head. After that it was a mile to see a waterfall that was NOT falling and then a mile back to the muddy road to get back. Right after the "falls" another deluge began. An endless and sometimes harrowing terrain later; we, muddy, drenched, and tired arrived safely back to the van in surprisingly good spirits, the general consensus being that it was STILL better than being in the classroom.
